Looking for Work

Duration: 3 hours

 

Target group:

This course is aimed at clients who have a conviction, have some understanding of the implications but need help accessing the workplace and contacts who can support them.

 

Objectives:

Clients would gain confidence and would be more pro-active in sourcing employment and relevant opportunities

 

Course includes:

 

• Do I have to declare my conviction?- relating convictions to ROA

• Will anyone employ an ex offender? - motivational input by me and may include other ex offenders

• Which jobs are most appropriate?Looking at some sectors that are more sympathetic to offenders such as construction, hospitality & catering

• How do I get work?Explaining who can help, how to use internet

• Next step?Booking appointment to see me to get one-to-one help

 

 

Disclosure Workshop

Duration: 3 hours

 

Target group:

Clients who have any type of conviction, are unsure of the implications, and feel this conviction is preventing them applying for work.

 

Objective:

Clients will gain understanding of Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, be able to work out if their own convictions are ‘spent’ or unspent.  They will learn when they have to disclose and the implications of not disclosing.   They will be provided with examples of a disclosure letter and be able to write a simple disclosure for themselves.

 

 

Course includes:

 

• Examining why a declaration of relevant criminal convictions is required by employers

• Other organisations who require disclosure

• Introduction to Rehabilitation of Offenders Act

• Explaining law around disclosure and the difference between spent and unspent

• Calculating rehabilitation periods

• Understanding when disclosure is necessary and when it is not

• Producing a basic disclosure letter

 

 

Disclosure Workshop Level 2

Duration: 3 hours

 

Target group:

This would be aimed at clients who need more in depth support because they want to apply for work which definitely requires disclosing e.g. care work or working with young people.  Clients would need the level of understanding gained in Workshop 1 and would need to have been screened so that they know they are eligible to apply for this type of work.

 

Objectives:

Client would understand the implications of their own conviction, be able to write an in depth disclosure and understand how to approach employers and which other networks they need to access for support

 

 

Course includes:

 

• Explaining law around disclosure

• Rehabilitation of Offenders Act

• Calculating rehabilitation period

• Enhanced CRB checks andother information held

• How to write a personal statement (disclosure)

• How to source prospective employers in sectors

• Who can help?Introducing support from voluntary sector

 

Employability Workshop

Duration: 3 hours

 

Target group:

This would be aimed at clients who have crimimal convictions and need support returning to employment. Clients need to be motivated and be confident using the internet. Those who have

 

Objectives:

Client will learn the skills needed to search for work independently, and gain an understanding of how to approach employers and disclose their conviction.  The client would understand the implications of their own conviction, be able to write an in depth disclosure and understand how to approach employers and which other networks they need to access for support

 

Course includes:

 

• Applying for work with a criminal conviction

• What sort of industries should i avoid

• Working out how long convictions lasts

• Gaining an understanding of CRB

• How to disclose convictions & Disclosure letters

• CV writing

• How to use the internet to job search

 

Working with Offenders

Helping professionals who are new to working with offenders and would like to build an understanding of the criminal justice system and how to help offenders with the barriers that they face.

 

The workshop covers the following:

• Examining why a declaration of relevant criminal convictions is required by employers & an introduction to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act

• Explaining the law around disclosure and the difference between spent and unspent convictions

• Calculating rehabilitation periods

• Understanding when disclosure is necessary and when it is not

• Producing a basic disclosure letter

• How to source prospective employers in sectors and what type of jobs are most appropriate?

 

Understanding the prison system and categories of prisoners:

• Understanding the different categories of prison and what is offered in the different prisons

• Understanding how prisoners are categorised & what implications these categories have

• How offenders progress through the system

• Courses offenders must do to complete their sentence plan

 

Understanding License Restriction:

• Understanding what a license is and why it is issued.

• What restrictions can be put on a license and how this may affect the individual
